The accession of The National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs to the Global Privacy Association GPA

Within the National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs vision to enhance confidence in the personal data privacy protection system in the State of Qatar, the department announces its accreditation as an observer in the Global Privacy Association (GPA).

The association aims to enhance international cooperation between privacy and data protection supervisory authorities primarily by providing a platform at its annual conference to encourage dialogue, information exchange and cooperation, particularly regarding enforcement actions.

The Association is a meeting point between members, accredited observers, forums and other international organizations that share its objectives to promote privacy rights and protect personal data internationally. In addition to developing international standards in this regard. Obtaining an observer status will enable the National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs to participate in the formulation and adoption of joint decisions and declarations on topics of common interest and to enhance their implementation.

The Global Privacy Association (GPA) first convened in 1979 as the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners (ICDPPC). As part of the department’s plan for effective and sustainable participation, the National Cyber Governance and Assurance Affairs was keen to participate in the forty-third gathering of the World Privacy Association, which was held from October 18 to October 21, 2021.
