Thursday, November 07, 2019

The Compliance and Data Protection (CDP) Department, of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) Cyber security Sector, hosted its second Service Provider Accreditation Workshop.
This workshop introduced Service Providers to the National Information Security Compliance Framework (NISCF) Accreditation Program, and it’s Accreditation Schemes:

  • Audit (for NIA and SSQA compliance); and,
  • Advisory (for consulting and implementation services).

Director of Compliance and Data Protection at the Ministry Engineer Dana al-Abdullah stressed the importance of working with the National Information Security Standards Framework within the National Cybersecurity Strategy and its role in assisting organisations and institutions from all sectors in securing information systems and raising the level of maturity in the applications of information security policies.

She added that accreditation contributes to raising the efficiency of the supply chain in the field of cybersecurity as it enables accredited service providers to build trust and confirms the ability and professionalism of the accredited provider, including all accredited service providers, as this guide provides an updated list of all credits issued by the Compliance and Data Protection Department, allowing organisations to verify the validity of accreditation.

After the introduction to the Accreditation Program, the session explored the Accreditation Process and a Service Providers journey throughout the accreditation lifecycle. This focused upon:

  • Achieving Accreditation;
  • Maintaining Accreditation; and,
  • Losing Accreditation.

After highlighting the key elements of each lifecycle stage, focus turned to consider the accreditation application process in more detail.

The event explored:

  • How to Apply for Accreditation;
  • Accreditation Requirements for Audit and Advisory Accreditation Schemes; and,
  • The Application Review.

The workshop ended with an extended question and answer session that allowed attendees to clarify understanding and explore requirements in further detail.
